Tiago Mattos

Tiago Mattos is an entrepreneur, author, teacher, and futures expert. 

As an entrepreneur, he has been part of the founding teams of various new economy initiatives: big data labs, digital platforms, coworking spaces, accelerators, in-class interaction apps, innovation schools, among others (see entrepreneur timeline).

As an author, he had his first book listed as a bestseller within the first week. In 2020, he was invited to participate in the Brazilian edition of the anthology 'Letter to My Younger Self’, alongside letters from Paul McCartney, Jamie Oliver, Ariana Huffington, Ozzy Osbourne, and eighty other international figures. He was an innovation columnist for Época Negócios and currently writes for FastCompany Brasil (see author timeline).

As an educator/speaker, he was the first Brazilian to join the faculty at Singularity University (USA), an organization that emerged from a partnership between NASA and Google. He was also a guest lecturer at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel) and the University of Lisbon (Portugal). His keynotes have reached audiences across all five continents. In 2018, he was invited to share insights at the United Nations in Geneva (see speaker timeline).

As a futures expert, Tiago has developed numerous theses and tools on the subject, with some of his forecasts gaining notable media attention (see media timeline). His work has influenced the strategic directions of dozens of organizations in Brazil. Internationally, he has been invited to participate in leadership meetings at companies such as Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Fiat/Chrysler, Merck, ABI/Ambev, among others (see futurist timeline).

Tiago gives approximately one hundred classes/lectures annually. Each January, he refreshes virtually all of his content - a way to keep learning and seeking out fresh perspectives.

Introduces 'The Why Store' project: a platform that blends fashion, design, and conscious consumption. TWS features an anti-consumer usability and, above all, aims to be a tool for reflection.

Debuts 'Tela Azul': an animated miniseries that satirizes the post-pandemic innovation scene.

Anticipated release of the Aerolito Box.

2007.

Conducts the inaugural class in Perestroika's first program.

2009.

Begins structuring, alongside Felipe Anghinoni, the best practices for what would later evolve into the Experience Learning initiative.

2013.

Launch of the Iscola.cc project in collaboration with W3. A crowdlearning platform where you could teach anything and learn everything.

2015.

Publishes Perestroika’s teaching methodology, Experience Learning, which later becomes available open source.

2016.

Initial experiments with classes in the metaverse.

2018

First class delivered in metaverse format at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Introducing the Interactive Arena: a classroom where students actively voted on and selected what they wanted to learn in real-time.

Introduction of Collaborative Distance Learning: students received a locked box with a combination lock. The code was uncovered through solving missions, which could be tackled as a group.

Invited to be a Guest Teacher in the Transdisciplinary Innovation Program at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, sharing his insights and ideas on futures.

Becomes the first Brazilian to join the faculty/expert team at Singularity University.

2017.

Organizes the largest independent futures event ever held in Brazil: the Friends of Tomorrow Conference, featuring appearances by astronaut Dr. Yvonne Cagle and Bibop Gresta, co-founder of Hyperloop TT.

2018.

Invited to share his insights on futures at the United Nations in Geneva.

Introduces 'What Comes After the Pandemic': a masterclass outlining ten predictions for the post-COVID world. For many, the ten predictions were validated.

2018.

Develops the Três Ondas (Three Waves): an original method for exploring futures. The project involved collaboration with various professionals during its conception. Years later, Kim Trieweiler makes a significant contribution and becomes a co-author of the method.

2020.

Introduces 'What Comes After the Pandemic': a masterclass outlining ten predictions for the post-COVID world. For many, the ten predictions were validated.

2020.

Leads the 'Futures' project, involving ten of the largest future-focused companies in Brazil. A collaboration between Aerolito, Box1824, Envisioning, Inesplorato, Mesa, Cesar, Draft, Olabi, Diver.ssa, and White Rabbit.

2022.

Friends of Tomorrow transitions to Tomorrow One. Simultaneously, the groundwork for a 'Theory of Futures' begins to take form (work in progress).

2023.

Strengthens role as a consultant and speaker on future trends. Over the last five years, has assisted over 250 companies and directly influenced over 100,000 individuals across all five continents.

2013.

Launches the crowdfunding campaign for his debut book, 'Just Get It Done' ('Vai Lá e Faz'). The collective funding reaches its goal within the first few days, becoming (at the time) one of the top performers on Catarse.

2015.

Two years later, the book is finally published independently. A free online edition is also made available.

2017.

'Just Get It Done' receives a new edition, now produced and distributed by a publisher. Within its initial week, it rises to become one of Brazil's top sellers, earning bestseller status.

2017.

Short stint as a columnist for Época Negócios.

2018.

'Just Get It Done' is published in English.

2020.

Featured in the Brazilian edition of the anthology 'Letter to My Younger Self,' alongside letters from Paul McCartney, Jamie Oliver, Ariana Huffington, Ozzy Osbourne, and eighty other international figures."

2021.

'Just Get It Done' is temporarily shelved with the promise of future updates or a re-release.

Independently publishes the children's book 'Passadim, Presentim, Futurim'.
